New York pesticide lawyers fight for India plant leak victims
Nearly 20 years ago, a Union Carbide pesticide plant tank in India leaked five tons of poisonous methyl isocyanate gas into the air. At the time, tens of thousands were injured and more than 3,000 were killed; victims groups now estimate the death toll to be 6,000. While the Indian government received compensation at the time of the accident, McCallion & Associates is working with victims to recover additional damages, alleging that Union Carbide's pesticide plant violated international law and fundamental human rights.

No individual state or nation can single-handedly bear the responsibility for protecting our environmental health or
recompensing victims in the event of an environmental tragedy. There is currently no treaty that holds all nations
responsible for their health threats, but this problem could be solved by the creation of an international environmental court.
